| Workshops
are generally an hour in length and are best suited
for groups of 20 - 40 participants. Workshops
are interactive and involve varying degrees of
discussion and/or group participation.
Basic Communication - covers basic communication skills and deals with the two types of communication (verbal and non-verbal), and the two components of communication (sending and receiving the message).
Marketing = Message - Covers the 5 P's of marketing and effective advertising techniques. Other topics include target markets, promotion strategies, and how to write a press release. A great way to teach students how to communicate with a wide variety of people in student council meetings, in their schools, and in their communities.
Team Building - Involves team-building exercises in small groups. This workshop focuses on building a positive team environment, and offers practical ideas for supporting team development. Requires large room or open space and additional support in staff or students to act as spotters.
What is a Leader - Examines the leadership potential of each student, and identifies leadership traits and styles. Discussion includes leadership as an attitude and way of life, and how leaders approach challenges and opportunities.
Self Esteem - An in-depth presentation of what self-esteem is, and how it affects everything in a person's life, from decision making to relationships with others. Deals with why it is essential for leaders to understand personal self-esteem, and the self-esteem issues of the people around them.
Balance, Goals and Decision Making - Takes students through an exercise to help them define the priorities in their lives, and learn to create balance between them. These priorities become the basis for decision-making.
Creativity and Problem Solving - Applies the "think outside the box" principal! Gives students a number of different exercises and activities that generate creative thinking, and teaches students to create opportunities.
Creativity and Decision Making - combines the themes listed in the above two workshops to help students define priorities, and apply creative thinking to create opportunities.
Entrepreneurship - Introduces the idea of starting your own business, and the basics of what's involved.
Public Speaking 101 - Presentation skills training. The basics for effective formal communication with practice!
Show Biz Tricks for the Stage of Life - Practical skills taken from dance, theatre and film that help students put their best foot forward in life. Mock auditions and evaluations for arts are compared to job interviews and school presentations.
Acing the Audition - Takes skills from above workshop and concentrates on teaching students how to audition for theatre and film. A tutorial on acting as a profession.
Preparing for a Youth Exchange - prepares
students for what to expect on a youth exchange
program. Covers travel tips, managing expenses,
living in different cultures, managing stress
and adjusting when returning home.
Preparing Parents for a Youth Exchange
- provides perspective and all the necessary
do's and don'ts for parents of youth about to
embark on a youth exchange program.
The Tourism Industry as a Career Choice
- Tourism is the fastest growing sector in Canada
and offers a wealth of career opportunities.
An introduction to the potential in this field,
how to get started, and inside tips about trends
that will give participants a head start.
God: Experiences that made me Believe
- an open discussion session that encourages
sharing from the participants about experiences
with faith, God, and higher powers.
Boundary Breakers - a fun and activity-filled
session of learning to use boundary-breaking
exercises.
Community Contacts: Opportunities for Youth
- provides an overview of the range of programs
and volunteer opportunities available for young
people within their community and beyond.
How to Get Hired: Real Life Expectations
- why do some young people get hired and others
don't? The truth about what needs to be on a
resume, how to answer interview questions, and
how to make the right impression.
