Why Kimberly?

Kimberly has often been told that she can "get through" to young people. She is a young woman whom students identify with, and she tells her stories bluntly and with brutal honesty. She doesn't lecture or preach - she simply shares her experiences, and allows her emotions, both happy and hurt, to show freely. Many of her stories deal with the insecurities she felt as a student herself, and her feelings of self-hatred and lack of self-confidence.

Kimberly understands that many youth are hurting, and speaks with the experience of someone who has been there. After hearing her presentation, many young people tell Kimberly that they felt like she was reading their minds. She creates an understanding in her audience that individuals are not alone in feelings of pain and insecurity, and that everyone has the potential to change his/her life. Kimberly is a firm believer in accepting responsibility for your life, and through this message, opens the door for her listeners to have choices, and to make changes. In several cases, Kimberly has had students approach her following a presentation to tell her that they were planning to commit suicide, but that her stories and message helped them decide to choose life instead.

Kimberly has been able to weather challenges both big and small, and has made the most of opportunities in her life. She has had incredible experiences personally, professionally, and as a volunteer. (About Kimberly) She is a person that young people look at and think, "I want to be like her". She is especially a role model for young women. After hearing her stories, students realize that she was once just like them, and feel inspired that they too can achieve their dreams, and make a difference.
